TVCOGECO Sarnia to receive Fire Safety Award
TORONTO, June 19, 2012 /CNW/ - TVCOGECO Sarnia will receive a Fire Safety Award from the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council at a ceremony on June 26, 2012 in Toronto. The annual Fire Safety Awards recognize outstanding contributions to fire protection and prevention in Ontario.
Recognizing the importance of fire safety, TVCOGECO Sarnia has always responded to Sarnia Fire & Rescue Services' requests to promote fire safety in the station's programming. For the past eight years, the fire department has been greatly assisted in their public education efforts by the television station.
During Ontario Hockey League (OHL) game broadcasts, the Wright to the Point talk show and other programs, the station has run public service announcements provided by the fire department. Over the holiday season, the fire department compiled holiday fire safety messages and these were also broadcast during OHL games. In addition, TVCOGECO Sarnia spent a day at the fire department and prepared a segment on a day in the life of a firefighter, which also aired on their local station.
"The people of Sarnia and surrounding communities benefit greatly from TVCOGECO Sarnia's commitment of time and resources to further the cause of fire safety," said Ted Wieclawek, Ontario Fire Marshal.
The Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council gratefully acknowledges the support of its sponsors in this event: Technical Standards and Safety Authority, The Co-operators Group, Kidde Canada Inc., Home Depot of Canada Inc., Proctor & Gamble Inc., Domino's Pizza of Canada, Electrical Safety Authority, Canadian Standards Association Group and Enbridge Gas Distribution.
