Toronto's Entertainment District Lights up the Season with Annual Christmas Tree Lighting

TORONTO, Nov. 19, 2013 /CNW/ - The voices of The St. Michael's Choir School and a student brass quintet from the University of Toronto Faculty of Music will kick-off the Toronto Entertainment District Business Improvement Area's (TOED) annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony. The tree lighting commences on Friday, November 22, 2013, at David Pecaut Square, at 5:00 p.m. and runs through to 6:30 p.m. that evening.

Two accredited Canadian music institutions come together to perform at this year's Christmas Tree lighting ceremony. Their festive tones herald one of the District's most celebratory seasons for visitors and local businesses.

The St. Michael's Choir School has provided Toronto boys with musical education and training since 1937, and the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto has offered an outstanding education in music since 1918. These holiday musical performances, supported by District member Oxford Properties Group, are free to the public. Visitors can enjoy hot chocolate and cookies, compliments of The Ritz-Carlton, Toronto. For further information visit:

The installation of over 6,000 feet of LED lights on the 35ft Ontario grown Colorado Blue Spruce tree has been made possible through the ongoing Exclusive Television Sponsorship of CP24. The tree will remain on display until late-January 2014. The CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish will also be on-hand to accept toy and financial donations.

The Entertainment District's Christmas Tree lighting brings local businesses together and highlights one of the most vibrant neighbourhoods in Canada. It is home to thousands of residents, several theatres and performing arts centres, Toronto's five major-league sports teams, an array of cultural/family attractions and many of Toronto's restaurants, nightclubs and bars.

According to Janice Solomon, Executive Director, Toronto Entertainment District BIA, "The Entertainment District is ready to launch into holiday celebrations, with help from our guests, at this year's annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony. It is a tradition for residents and businesses in the District to gather together for this festive activity. We are pleased to host it as it continues to bring vibrancy and liveliness to the District. "

The nearby CN Tower, another supporting Entertainment District BIA member, will glow in a festive red over David Pecaut Square. The Tower's regularly scheduled 8-minute light show occurs at the top of each hour.
