Toronto Pearson celebrates the city with unique tastes from renowned Toronto chefs



TORONTO, Dec. 12, 2013 /CNW/ - Today, Toronto Pearson announced the openings of two new restaurants by leading Toronto chefs. Acer by Guy Rubino will open in Terminal 3 next week joining Hemant Bhagwani's Marathi which recently opened in Terminal 1. With an eclectic range of menu options, these concepts bring some of Toronto's diverse city culture to life. The new openings are the final two restaurants resulting from the airport's relationship with restaurateur OTG Management. Since the partnership was announced in April 2012, 11 new dining concepts have opened at Toronto Pearson.

"Since the start of the dining transformation, we have seen a broad range of new concepts open at the airport and have received a very positive response from travellers," said Mike Ross, Director of Commercial Development for the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA). "Our relationship with OTG has allowed us to bring the distinct cultural tastes of Toronto to the travelling public. It has helped us to deliver on our promise of bringing new experiences that surprise and delight our passengers."

Terminal 1 welcomes Marathi, an Indian concept with its menu developed by Toronto chef and owner of the popular Amaya empire, Hemant Bhagwani whose unique approach to Indian cuisine will bring well-known dishes to Toronto Pearson diners. From items like a Butter Chicken Naan Panini to Black Tiger Shrimp Vindaloo, Marathi offers a menu of Indian "street food" and other delicacies. The restaurant also offers a hearty Indian-inspired breakfast menu, sweets and beverages.

Serving Terminal 3, Acer is a modern Japanese concept. Featuring dishes such as Salmon, Hamachi, and Albacore Tuna Carpaccio, Volcano Maki Rolls and Korean Short Ribs, this restaurant with its menu developed by former owner and executive chef of Rain/Ame, Guy Rubino, celebrates fresh ingredients and traditional technique.

An accompaniment to its Terminal 1 location, Vinifera also opens a second location in Terminal 3 next week. Sommelier John Szabo, known throughout the region for his expansive knowledge of wine brings an extensive selection of over 85 varieties to choose from, including both Ontario and global offerings. OTG concept chef Michael Coury has developed the menu which features small plates, salads and paninis using fresh, local ingredients.

"It is truly remarkable to see the transformation of Terminals 1 and 3 in such a short period of time," said Rick Blatstein, CEO, OTG. "This collaboration with Toronto Pearson and our local chef partners has created something special at the airport, and the best is still yet to come."

As with all OTG concepts, the new dining options also offer travellers free access to Apple iPads at every seat with menus available in 20 languages. Food orders can be made on the iPads and dishes are then prepared fresh and delivered to the customer's seat in 15 minutes or less. The iPads are available to all passengers to also browse the web and stay updated with real-time flight information via a custom suite of applications. As part of the OTG program, 2,500 iPads have been rolled out across the terminals, making all guests feel at home. The look and feel of each concept was created in partnership with architect and Toronto native, Lionel Ohayon of ICRAVE.
