The premiere of City Thread / Fils de Ville: an interactive ambulatory choreography by Victor Quijada

MONTREAL, Aug. 25, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Forty performers and as many spectators that the Esplanade of Place des Arts can hold, an innovative design with an exclusive tech device, and the participation of the two of the top dance schools in Quebec: City Thread / Fils de Ville is an artistic trajectory in the official program of Montreal's 375th anniversary. Audio zones along the route and sensors on dancers create a unique sensorial experience for spectators, who choose among the options offered by the eponymous app. Dance, music, and architecture combine in a multidisciplinary performance as audience members, smartphones in hand, follow one of the groups of dancers on a changing, evolving path.

On the Esplanade of Place des Arts from August 29 to September 10, daily at 5:15 p.m. and at 7 p.m.
There are no performances on Mondays. Exceptionally, on Saturday, September 2, the performances are at 1 p.m. and at 3 p.m.
The meeting/departure point is in front of the Musée d'art contemporain.
The performances last 30 minutes and are free of charge.

For his part, Montreal's mayor, Denis Coderre, declared: "Montreal is a smart city, an innovative, festive, creative city, and all of its meaning and its space is manifest here. This is yet another original way of celebrating the 375th anniversary of our cultural metropolis, in the heart of the entertainment district. I wish all curious onlookers and participants a great experience . . . and long live Montreal!"

 "Fils" refers to the threads of relationships: stretched, broken off, and woven together again.
"Fils" also refers to a son who now offers his work to the city that welcomed him two decades ago.
Hybridization, encounters, patchwork, intimacy, and community compose the knot at the heart of this work.

Founded in Montreal in 2002 by choreographer and dancer Victor Quijada, the company immediately won the favour of both the public and critics with three works created in two seasons at Espace Tangente. The revolutionary character of Victor's movement aesthetic has stood out during 15 years of research and performance. A polyvalent, prolific dancer, from the age of 26, Victor moved from the clubs of his hometown of Los Angeles to a career with acclaimed classical ballet and post-modern dance companies such as THARP!, Ballet Tech, and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens. Since founding RUBBERBANDance Group in 2002, he has created more than 24 dance works of varying lengths for RBDG and for outside commissions, and has toured extensively in North America, Europe, Mexico, and Japan. In 2003, Victor Quijada received the Bonnie Bird New Choreography Award and the Peter Darrell Choreographic Award. In 2009, he was awarded the OQAJ/RIDEAU Prize, and in 2010, he received the Princess Grace Foundation Award – Choreography Fellowship. In 2016, Victor received a second PGFA award: a Works in Progress Residency at the Baryshnikov Arts Center of New York.
