Fourth annual HR Summit Awards celebrate the best in Canadian HR excellence

TORONTO, Feb. 1, 2012 /CNW/ - The Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) and the Canadian HR Reporter hosted its annual HR Summit Awards last night at a gala awards presentation at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

This year's winners include:

Toronto Star - HR Professional of the Year Award

Bonni Titgemeyer
The Employers' Choice Inc.

Bonni Titgemeyer is the Managing Director of The Employers' Choice Inc. and consults in the total compensation arena. She is a well-known HR connector and initiated the network and blogsite. She is the past president of HRPA Peel Chapter— a two-time winner of the Chapter of Excellence award.

Canadian HR Reporter - HR Rising Star Award

Kimberley Killens, CHRP
Grand Bend Area Community Health Centre/ South Huron Hospital Association

Kim Killens is the Director of Human Resources for the South Huron Hospital Association and the Grand Bend Area Community Health Centre. She earned the CHRP in 2010. Kim leads both organizations in all aspects of HR, focusing on employee development and relationship building.

Innovation in Employment Branding Award

Talent Strategy and Acquisition team - Rogers Communications

Rogers is Canada's largest provider of wireless voice and data communications services and one of Canada's leading providers of cable television, high-speed Internet and telephone services. Through Rogers Media it is also engaged in radio and television broadcasting, televised shopping, magazines and trade publications, and sports entertainment.

Innovation in Total Rewards Award

HR Team - Longo's

Longo's is a family owned and operated grocery retail business that provides customers with the best fresh food experience possible. Longo's has grown rapidly over the past five years and the firm's HR team has guided this growth with long-term sustainable people strategies focused on team member engagement.

Corporate Social Responsibility Award

Mike Bradley
City of Sarnia

Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley has championed civil liberties, security and environmental issues and has been an advocate on many other social and economic issues. Mayor Bradley has been awarded the Queen's Jubilee Medal and has received numerous awards for his community service and advocacy for disabled and intellectually challenged people.

TD Insurance Meloche Monnex - Corporate Governance and Strategic Leadership Award

HRaid Collaboration Initiative - Human Resources and Skills Development Canada

HRaid is an interdepartmental collaboration of five federal government departments/agencies that established the virtual Project Collaboration Space and Portfolio Management and Project Management Tool. The tool enables effective governance, collaboration and transparency to align, integrate and deliver common HR solutions for the Government of Canada.

Right Management - Overall Talent Management Award

Corporate Human Resources - TD Bank Group

TD Bank Group is the sixth largest bank in North America, growing from 47,000 employees to over 85,000 employees in five years. This rapid expansion was a strong impetus for building a strategic, integrated talent management approach to keep pace with TD's business strategy to "Be the Better Bank".

HR Academic of the Year Award

Dr. Margaret Yap
Ryerson University

Margaret Yap is Associate Professor in Human Resources Management at the Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University. Her research interests are in the area of diversity and equity in organizations and human resource management in the global economy. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in human resources management.

Employer Champion of IEP Award

IEN/ESL Nurse Integration Project Team - Hamilton Health Sciences

Hamilton Health Sciences is a family of six unique hospitals and a cancer centre, serving more than 2.3 million residents of Hamilton and Central South and Central West Ontario. Josephine DesLauriers
Leisureworld Senior Care Corporation

Josephine DesLauriers, CHRP, is the vice president of human resources for Leisureworld Senior Care Corporation, an organization that employs 5,400 employees across the province and owns and operates care and retirement homes and independent living facilities. She is responsible for Leisureworld's people strategy including succession planning, employee relations, compensation, benefits, and training and development.
