About Aspenware Inc. (www.aspenware.ca): Aspenware Inc. is a Vernon, British Columbia based company. It has designed and engineered an advanced and patented manufacturing process for the production of Aspenware® 100% compostable wooden cutlery as an alternative to the 100 billion disposable plastic utensils landfilled each year.
It began as an experiment in the Bigsby kitchen with a re-purposed waffle iron, home-spun birch veneer, a simple flour and water glue, and some burnt oven mitts. Then it took almost 3 hours to make a single piece of cutlery.
Today Aspenware® is in a 25,000 sq.ft. facility and has built their fully automated 2nd -generation production line, locally in the Okanagan valley. The Company can now produce nearly 35,000 pieces per hour and supply both retail and wholesale markets internationally.
Aspenware® utensils are proudly made in Canada from underutilized birch and aspen fibre sources that are historically wasted during regular softwood harvesting practices, about half of which is harvested from First Nations owned and operated busineses. Aspenware® is the only single-use cutlery option that readily and rapidly degrades in all composting systems while also providing premium form, function and eco-authenticity.
