Student Business Gala Award Night

When passionate students meet dedicated mentors…

MONTREAL, Sept. 14, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - MR3 Montréal Relève today celebrated the 11th edition of its Student Business program at the Palais des congrès de Montréal. The event marked the contributions of some 200 mentors who worked with nearly 1,000 third and fourth year secondary school students who are exploring career options. 19 students and 19 mentors who distinguished themselves in a specific career field were awarded prizes at the gala.

MRMontréal Relève is a non-profit organization that was created in 1995 by the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal in cooperation with the City of Montreal. The organization's core activity, the Student Business program, helps young people prepare their entry into the workforce by enabling them to make enlightened career choices and by providing them with inspired and stimulating prospects through summer internships.

MRMontréal Relève conceives innovative projects, in alignment with broader economic development goals, geared towards helping the Montreal area youth prepare its transition into the labor market. We are proud of our achievements and we are aware that much remains to be done. A growing demographic deficit in light of an aging population is placing a growing pressure on the labour market. This makes our work timely and essential.

Since the Student Business program's creation in 2001, some 10,000 students from public secondary schools in metropolitan Montreal have participated in the internships. School administrators have played an active and vital role in supporting the program.

Students often tell us that they have lived a dream or have discovered a new passion while participating in an internship. Valérie Houle-Paquette, from École secondaire Saint-Henri, says: « It made me realize that I have to take my studies seriously in order to be as prepared as I can be once I seek to enter the workforce ».

The Student Business program could not operate without the collaboration of the companies and organizations that have opened their doors to the students for 11 years. Our mentors are dynamic and devoted and they are the key to the program's success.

Men and women from nearly 900 workplaces have volunteered their time and shared their professional experience and skills with the students since the program's inception.

The program's network has been steadily expanding over the years and the MR3 Montréal Relève is proud to be associated with a number of leading partners supporting its goals and the event, which include Stationnement de Montreal, Desjardins, Accenture, Aéroports de Montréal, Barreau du Québec, Groupe Jean Coutu, Mission Design, l'Ordre des comptables professionnels agréés du Québec, UQAM - Faculty of Science, AéroMontréal, Staples, Groupe CGI Inc., Pratt & Whitney Canada and
