Stouffville Mayor First to Receive Coveted Cybersafety Award for Supporting Anti-Bullying & Online Safety

STOUFFVILLE, ON, March 22, 2013 /CNW/ - Mayor Wayne Emmerson was honoured on Youth CyberSafety Day (March 12) for his Office's and the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville's progressive stance on keeping local kids and families safe online. This brings to light some of the most important causes affecting youth and families in the region. By setting a strong example for other municipalities to follow KnowledgeFlow seeks to raise awareness and help to hack-proof the local community against the serious risks of cyberbullying, online fraud and malware.

The event was part of a trailblazing initiative in a community that has seen its share of privacy breaches and bullying issues., is an independent, non-profit division of well known security and privacy consultancy Informatica of Toronto. The radical new approach to awareness entertains, informs and engages not only families but entire communities. KnowledgeFlow Cybersafety seminars are open to all young people in the region and many chose to attend with parents or other adults.

We couldn't have made Stouffville's CyberSafety Day special without the Mayor's participation and the kind support of the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville."

The bullying epidemic was a key driver in establishing KnowledgeFlow as an exciting new way to share valuable knowledge with youth, parents, educators and older adults in the community. Some of the tips provided included:

  • Empowering children to be more knowledgeable and work towards important goals
  • Showing parents how to explore technology and the Internet together with kids
  • Exploring the serious consequences of sharing personal information online

Sponsors included the Stouffville Chamber of Commerce., YorkWorks Employment Services and Stouffville Hyundai. KnowledgeFlow also acknowledges the generous support provided by the Information and Privacy Commissioner, the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville and Public Library.
