Signing of an ICT business corridor between Montreal and Guadalajara, Mexico

MONTREAL, June 27, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - TechnoMontréal and CANIETI Occidente, the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) clusters of Greater Montreal (Quebec, Canada) and Guadalajara (Mexico) have today reached a collaboration agreement aiming to facilitate commercial trade between the two cities. The signing of the agreement happened in Guadalajara, in the presence of the Quebec premier, Pauline Marois and the minister responsible for industrial policy and the Banque de développement économique du Québec, Élaine Zakaïb.

Under this agreement, the two organizations will both welcome commercial ICT missions coming from their partner city and will supply the necessary tools so that each of the sites can act as a support centre for the planning, realization and follow-up of these commercial missions. Furthermore, the members of CANIETI Occidente and TechnoMontréal will run internships, allowing for joint projects to be implemented. In addition, the two parties will facilitate the exchange of information on the profiles and interests of their members in order to encourage cooperation towards innovation in all areas of ICT application. This aspect particularly shines with the launch of a B2B collaborative platform, targeting the creation of business consortiums with a view on developing new markets. This partnership will be highlighted during the World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT 2014) that will take place in Guadalajara.

This business corridor is the culmination of a vast analysis of international markets done by TechnoMontréal in 2012. At the conclusion of the study, Guadalajara stood out as a partner of choice, as much for its business opportunities as for its affinities in terms of developmental vision. "TechnoMontréal, with its Montreal Digital Metropolis project, aims to propel Montreal into the ranks of the major Smart Cities of the world. CANIETI Occidente, and its Ciudad Creativa Digital project, pursues the same development objective. This new business corridor between the two cities consolidates the strong growth potential of our respective ICT sectors by encouraging commercial trade, while accelerating the positioning of our communities among the world's major intelligent cities" states Lidia Divry, Executive Director of TechnoMontréal. This signing is the first in a series of agreements that are in negotiation between TechnoMontréal and the ICT clusters of other major international cities.
