/R E P E A T -- Media Advisory/Photo Opportunity: Iconic Toronto Landmark, the TIP TOP TAILORS building on Lake Shore, Lights up the Waterfront/
TORONTO, Nov. 26, 2014 /CNW/ - On Tuesday, December 2, one of Toronto's most historically significant buildings on the waterfront-- the Tip Top Tailors building on Lake Shore Blvd West -- will officially light up the sky and reclaim its special place on the Toronto skyline. After being dark for the past 10 years, the famous red sign which sits atop the east, west and north facades of the building will come to life via a newly refurbished LED-lit sign that will boldly spell out the Tip Top Tailors name once again.
The Tip Top Tailors building has earned its place in Toronto's cultural and commercial history. Constructed in 1929 to the designs of architect Roy M. Bishop, the former garment factory is a fine example of Art Deco design with the symmetrical features and geometric shapes including the painted white concrete with cast architectural ornament, and brightly coloured glazed tile bands that are the hallmarks of the style. Designated as a heritage property by the city in 1973, the Tip Top Tailors building was sold to Context Development in 2002 who retrofitted the historic structure into the high-end condominium building it is today, registering the complex in 2006.
