Prime Minister Carney to attend Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting to strengthen partnerships in trade, investment, and sustainable development
FrançaisOTTAWA, ON, Oct. 28, 2026 /CNW/ -- In a more dangerous and volatile world, the Commonwealth remains a constant. Its 56 member nations span the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, North America, and the Indo-Pacific – united by a shared belief that we can achieve far more together than we can alone.
Canada is deepening these partnerships to create new economic opportunities and build a more resilient, more secure, and more prosperous world for all. As part of this mission, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that he will travel to St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda, from November 2 to 4, 2026, to participate in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
At CHOGM, Prime Minister Carney will meet with Commonwealth leaders to deepen trade and investment ties and accelerate cooperation on climate resilience and renewable energy. The Prime Minister will also discuss pressing geopolitical challenges and the future direction of the Commonwealth – including how its members can work together to bolster collective security.
As Canada charts its path forward in this new world, we look to our fellow Commonwealth members as partners. Together, we are building on the foundations that unite us – democracy, human rights, sustainable development – to create greater security, stronger economies, and new opportunities for our peoples.
