Potential Place Clubhouse Receives Highest Accreditation in History

CALGARY, Nov. 26, 2013 /CNW/ - Clubhouse International has awarded a three-year unconditional accreditation to Potential Place Clubhouse following an in depth faculty review which took place in early October.

Accreditation with a three-year return review is awarded to Clubhouses that substantially adhere to each of the categories of the International Standards (Membership, Relationships, Space, Work-Ordered-Day, Employment, and Education, Functions of the House and Funding Governance and Administration). These Clubhouses operate in a truly effective manner providing excellent opportunities for Clubhouse members. Solid peer relationships exist and are fostered by the cultural norms of the Clubhouse community as expressed in the Standards.

In making the award, Joel Corcoran Executive Director or Clubhouse International said: "Congratulations on achieving such a strong, rehabilitative environment. We wish you continued success at providing the best Clubhouse services possible for members. Achievement of Clubhouse International Accreditation is a notable distinction for your Clubhouse."

Frank Kelton, Executive Director of Potential Place in accepting the award, thanked all Potential Place members, staff and the Board of Directors for their hard work over the past 18 months leading up to the faculty visit and ultimate accreditation. "As a voluntary, caring community that offers a place of hope, dignity, and psycho-social rehabilitation to members who have a mental illness, Potential Place is defined by values of acceptance without stigma, empowerment and egalitarianism. We are grateful to be part of a world-wide community of Accredited Clubhouses," Mr. Kelton said.

Potential Place Clubhouse is a non-profit mental health agency offering a safe place for mental health recovery through acceptance and through opportunities to work side-by-side with professional staff in a structured work-ordered-day - one that is pre-vocational and which often-times, offers members opportunities for transitional, supported and independent employment in the community.
