North Grenville Corporate Services Director Named New AMCTO President

MISSISSAUGA, June 17, 2013 /CNW/ - Cahl Pominville, AMCT, Director of Corporate Services/ Clerk for the Municipality of North Grenville, was sworn in as President of AMCTO (the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario) during the Closing Ceremonies of the landmark 75th Annual Conference of the Association held on June 11th at Blue Mountain Resort in The Blue Mountains, Ontario.

Founded 75 years ago in 1938, AMCTO is Ontario's largest municipal professional association, and the leading professional development organization for administrative staff in municipal government.

Cahl Pominville has been involved in municipal government for 19 years, following his early career working in retail management and the Federal Government. In his inaugural address, Mr. Pominville praised the Association's ability to facilitate networks for municipal professionals to share information and knowledge, and to create lasting friendships. He highlighted the key role AMCTO plays in providing information, education and a voice for municipal professionals to help them become 'The Municipal Experts.' Cahl outlined as the priority for his term, building on AMCTO's already strong record of member engagement. He called on the members in attendance to reach out to their colleagues and encourage them to get more actively involved in the Association, for the benefit of all members.

Said North Grenville CAO, Brian J. Carre: "I consider having a member of the Municipality of North Grenville staff elected to President of AMCTO as an acknowledgement of the quality of people that we employ.  Cahl is a true ambassador of our community, not only in his role with the Municipality but as a resident as well.  I have no doubt that his commitment to the role of president with the Association will equal or even surpass his commitment to the people of North Grenville.  It will be my privilege to work with Cahl over the next 12 months as he fulfils his mandate.  Congratulations Cahl on making North Grenville proud!"

"Making the move into municipal politics has a steep learning curve. I lean heavily on Cahl for procedural guidance and have come to learn that he is among the most knowledgeable and connected professionals in the Province.  Cahl has time and again indicated that the relationships he has built through the AMCTO have strengthened him in his role and provided a knowledge-base that we could draw on as an organization. It is with pride that we lend his expertise to this community of municipal experts and extend congratulations on this milestone in his career," stated North Grenville Mayor, David Gordon.

The Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, The Honourable David C. Onley, was a special guest at the 75th Annual AMCTO Conference. He lauded AMCTO's leadership role in municipal administration and management. His Honour mentioned a number of important AMCTO initiatives including its partnership with the Accessibility Directorate of Ontario to support Municipalities to become barrier free. The Lieutenant Governor referenced his personal ties to AMCTO - his father, Charles Onley was a longtime friend of AMCTO and served as the Association's lawyer for many years. His Honour participated in a ceremonial cake cutting along with AMCTO Past President, Jack Collinson and outgoing President Nancy Wright-Laking.

Michelle Smibert, Chief Administrative Officer for the Municipality of Middlesex Centre was named AMCTO Vice President for the 2013 - 2014 term.
