MISSISSAUGA, ON, Nov. 3, 2026 /CNW/ -- bubly, Canada's No. 1 sparkling beverage brand, is teaming up with GRAMMY ® Award-winning, multi-platinum entertainer Michael Bublé and The Elf on the Shelf® Santaverse to ask Canadians what officially signals the start of the holiday season: the music or the magic? Michael Bublé and The Elf on the Shelf ® are playfully representing each side of the debate. The playful debate kicks off a broader holiday partnership designed to bring a little more fun and bubly spirit to the holiday season.
New research commissioned by bubly suggests that the holiday countdown may begin earlier than most people think. Half of Canadians aged 18-34 say they start celebrating before December 1, compared to 39 per cent who say their holiday celebrations begin in December. Starting the holiday season before December 1 is especially common among respondents in Atlantic Canada (49 per cent) and Saskatchewan and Manitoba (47 per cent).
For many, the holidays begin to feel real when the familiar sights of the season start to appear. Decorating a Christmas tree or hanging decorations (16 per cent) and spotting holiday lights appearing around the neighbourhood (15 per cent) were the moments most likely to bring a smile and signal that the season had begun. Food and drinks are also part of bringing holiday gatherings to life. Among Canadians who include sparkling water in their holiday celebrations, more than half (51 per cent) say they enjoy bubly.

How Can Canadians Vote in the bubly Music vs. Magic Holiday Debate?
Inspired by the survey findings, bubly, part of PepsiCo Canada's food and beverage portfolio, along with Michael Bublé and The Elf on the Shelf ® Santaverse are inviting Canadians to weigh in on one festive question. Does the season begin with the music or the magic? With Michael representing music and The Elf on the Shelf ® representing magic, Canadians can choose a side.
From November 3–8, Canadians can visit bubly Canada's Instagram and TikTok channels (@bublysparklingca) to cast their vote on what they believe officially signals the start of the holiday season. Voting runs through November 9, when bubly will reveal the results and settle the holiday debate.
"For me, the holidays start when the music does, but apparently The Scout Elf has other ideas. So, this year, bubly is helping us settle the debate once and for all, and we're letting Canada decide," says Michael Bublé.
On the other side of the holiday debate, The Elf on the Shelf ® is making the case for magic.
"The Elf on the Shelf has been delighting Canadian families for years, so we're thrilled to team up with bubly and Michael Bublé this holiday season. For many Canadians, the Scout Elf's return and the first notes of Michael's holiday music both signal that the season has officially begun, and everyone seems to have an opinion on which comes first! We love that bubly is giving Canadians a fun way to join in the debate and celebrate the magic of the season," says Christa Pitts, co-CEO, The Lumistella Company.
The holiday debate doesn't end with the vote. Canadians can follow @bublysparklingca on Instagram and TikTok throughout the season for more from bubly, Michael Bublé and The Elf on the Shelf ®.
