Movie predictions on Mise-o-jeu off to a good start!

MONTREAL, Feb. 21, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The addition of movie bets on Mise-o-jeu is a first for Loto-Québec and has been favourably received by the public! After three weeks of sales, which began on January 28th, more than 3,000 bets have been placed for a total in excess of $25,000. It is highly likely that the level of interest will continue to rise as we close in on the evening of Hollywood's big event. There remain only three days to make predictions on who will win in the main categories of the world's most prestigious motion picture event. Bets close at 7 p.m. on Sunday, February 24th.

Up to now, the most popular category among the eight offered by Mise-o-jeu is Best Picture, taking the top spot with nearly 32% of total sales. Nearly half of all bets placed are single bets, meaning that the bettor predicts the outcome of a single question, and approximately 12% of bets have been placed online.

Prediction odds

Loto-Québec regularly reviews the odds offered on its predictions. For example, Lincoln, which was the initial favourite when sales began on January 28th, subsequently fell into second place, with odds rising from 1.25 to 5.50. Conversely, Loto-Québec adjusted the odds on Argo, the picture that is currently the category favourite. Naturally, Loto-Québec will honour the odds listed on tickets at time of purchase.

A new niche to explore?

"In the light of this experience, Loto-Québec will examine the possibility of offering new non-sports bets in order to diversify its customer base, looking at whether the culture industry has potential for Mise-o-jeu," stated Sports Betting manager Louis Beaudet. "We will need to look at which events or galas are of greatest interest to the Québec general public," he added.
