Montreal is leaving its mark on the global struggle for human rights

MONTREAL, June 22, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Today, more than one hundred participants will be completing Equitas' 33rd annual International Human Rights Training Program (IHRTP) in Montreal. They will travel home to Libya, Egypt, Pakistan, Mali, Haiti and up to 50 more countries with new tools and knowledge to make their work for social change even more effective.

The three-week program - supported by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) - has earned an international reputation built upon the concrete and sustainable outcomes achieved by the trainees after the program

"This Program offers us a unique sharing experience with different cultures. By opening ourselves more and more to the perceptions of others, we enrich our own understanding of human rights values and see concretely how we can better transmit these values and integrate them in our communities." Commented Reham Eljebaly from Egypt as the program nears its end.

The certificates that will be awarded to participants this afternoon mark an important milestone for the participants who will be returning home to embark on important social justice projects in their own countries.  Their courage and determination combined with ongoing collaboration and support from Equitas will ensure the success of their efforts and will add to incredible work already being done by the more than 3,500 human rights defenders and educators trained by Equitas since 1980.
