Member of Parliament Robert Goguen Announces Funding for the Conseil Provincial des Sociétés Culturelles

MONCTON, NB, Oct. 24, 2013 /CNW/ - Robert Goguen, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and Member of Parliament (Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe), today announced funding for a project by the Conseil provincial des sociétés culturelles (CPSC). He made this announcement on behalf the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

"I would like to congratulate the Conseil provincial des sociétés culturelles on its commitment to the arts, culture and heritage in New Brunswick's Acadian and Francophone communities," said Mr. Goguen. "By supporting this project, the Government of Canada continues to honour its commitment to support the development of official-language minority communities."

This funding will support the CPSC's efforts to put together a cultural calendar to promote a series of cultural and community events in French —at the local, regional, and provincial levels—that will take place in New Brunswick until March 2014. This project will increase public access to a wide variety of locally offered arts, culture and heritage activities and help strengthen a sense of belonging and community engagement.

"Our Government is proud to partner with the CPSC, which has contributed to the vitality and development of New Brunswick's Francophone and Acadian communities for 40 years," said Minister Glover. "We recognize the importance of supporting projects that showcase our history, identity and culture."

"We are pleased that the Department of Canadian Heritage supports innovation," said Marie-Thérèse Landry, Director General of the Conseil provincial des sociétés culturelles. "This funding will serve as a springboard to allow us to seek the necessary funds to produce an inter-regional cultural community calendar. The need for such a calendar was determined in consulting with partners in cultural development in the province."

The Government of Canada has provided funding of $22,000 to the CPSC in 2013-14 through the Community Life component of the Development of Official-Language Communities Program. This program of the Department of Canadian Heritage aims to foster the development of Canada's minority Anglophone and Francophone communities and enable them to participate fully in all aspects of Canadian life.
