Member of Parliament Rob Clarke Announces Funding for Ness Creek Music Festival

SASKATOON, Nov. 4, 2013 /CNW/ - Rob Clarke, Member of Parliament (Desnethé-Missinippi-Churchill River), on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced funding to the Ness Creek Cultural and Recreational Society for its annual festival.

"The Ness Creek Music Festival brings together music, community, ecology, and the arts," said Mr. Clarke. "Our Government is pleased to invest in the Society so it can continue to showcase regional and national artists to Saskatchewan audiences year after year."

The funding will support the 2014 and 2015 editions of the Ness Creek Music Festival. The festival features professional and emerging Canadian folk musicians and takes place at an outdoor boreal forest site near Big River, Saskatchewan.

"Our Government is proud to invest in organizations that give Canadians access to live professional artistic experiences," said Minister Glover. "We recognize that arts and culture strengthen our communities and are important generators of economic growth, jobs and wealth in our communities."

"The Ness Creek Cultural and Recreational Society is delighted to have the support of Canadian Heritage for the upcoming 2014 and 2015 festival seasons," said Jaki French, Executive Director. "Public support such as this helps us showcase Canadian arts and deliver the beloved Ness Creek Music Festival experience to the thousands of appreciative folks that come together each year to celebrate music, arts, community, and ecology in Saskatchewan's boreal forest."

The Government of Canada has provided funding of $56,000 ($28,000 for 2014-2015 and $28,000 for 2015-2016) through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the variety and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
