Member of Parliament Bryan Hayes announces support for Algoma Conservatory Of Music

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON, Oct. 18, 2013 /CNW/ - Bryan Hayes, Member of Parliament (Sault Ste. Marie), on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced support for the Algoma Conservatory of Music.

Funding will help the Algoma Conservatory of Music present the 2014 and 2015 Concerts Series, which will showcase a wide range of Canadian classical musicians and present chamber concerts and several master classes at a variety of venues in the northern community.

"I congratulate the Algoma Conservatory of Music for its ongoing dedication to arts and culture in our community," said Mr. Hayes. "This series will provide opportunities for artists while contributing strongly to the region's vitality."

"Our Government is proud to support organizations that promote Canadian music and support our artists," said Minister Glover. "The Algoma Conservatory of Music provides the region's residents and visitors with access to top-notch performances and brings unique cultural experiences to northern Ontario communities."

"We are again thrilled to have been awarded multi-year support from the Government of Canada," said Guy Traficante, Artistic Director, Algoma Conservatory of Music. "This makes it possible to continue bringing full seasons of some of the finest Canadian and international touring ensembles and soloists to Sault Ste. Marie. From the Canadian Brass to the St. Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble, our enthusiastic audience greatly appreciates the opportunity to hear artists of this calibre. Regardless of one's age, profession or cultural background, performances of great classical music performed by master musicians inspires a profound appreciation for uncompromised excellence. There is no doubt that this is ultimately reflected in our community's work."

The Government of Canada has provided funding of $50,000 ($25,000 in 2014-2015 and $25,000 in 2015-2016) through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the variety and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
