Media Statement - SEIU initiates strike activity with PSWs of Canadian Red Cross and Red Cross Care Partners

TORONTO, Dec. 9, 2013 /CNW/ - Statement from the Canadian Red Cross and Red Cross Care Partners:
A renewed contract with our Personal Support Workers (PSWs) represented by SEIU Healthcare has not been reached at this time. While a memorandum of settlement was reached and recommended both by SEIU and by us, as the employers, it was not ratified by the membership. We were notified this evening that SEIU will initiate strike activity beginning Wednesday morning. The safety and well being of our clients is our top priority. We have contingency plans in place and will make every effort to minimize any disruption in service to our clients. The lines of communication with the union remain open.

We salute the important role our Personal Support Workers play in the delivery of services to our clients.  They are a critically important part of our organizations.

There is no disruption to any other Red Cross services.
