Media Advisory - Can we control health costs while improving care?

VANCOUVER, May 28, 2013 /CNW/ - As health care consumes a significant and growing share of government spending, it is necessary to find solutions to the complex problem of transforming our health system.

More than 600 health researchers, decision-makers, and policy experts will come together in Vancouver May 28 to 30 to focus on how Canada can achieve the "triple aim" of better health, better patient and provider experience, and constrained cost growth. The Canadian Association for Health Services and Policy Research (CAHSPR) annual conference is Canada's premier event for evidence-informed discussion of health policy issues.

Media interview opportunity

Dr. Diane Finegood, president and CEO of the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research, will be available May 28 and 29 for interviews related to creating a "learning" health system. Dr. Finegood is a well-known diabetes and obesity researcher who is bringing her expertise in complex systems thinking to the "wicked problem" of health care system transformation. She will present at the conference on May 29 about how we can adopt a more holistic, system-wide approach to change.
