MDA provides continued support for international space station
RICHMOND, BC, March 2, 2012 /CNW/ - MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSX: MDA), a provider of essential information solutions, announced today that it has signed a contract amendment worth CA$14.7 million with the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) for logistics and sustaining engineering requirements for the Mobile Servicing System. This amendment extends the work through March 2013, bringing the total contract value to CA $152.7 million.
The Mobile Servicing System was developed under contract to the CSA as Canada's contribution to the international space station (ISS). A permanent resident on the ISS, the Mobile Servicing System, which includes Canadarm2, Dextre and the Mobile Base System, is essential to the ongoing operations of the ISS. These three robotic components also provide support for berthing of visiting vehicles and on-going maintenance. The ISS is expected to remain in operation through 2020.
