Launch of INTEGRATE-AF assessment program

MONTREAL, June 27, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - At a meeting coordinated in Montreal by cardiologist Dr. Thao Huynh of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), physicians and nurses from the 13 centres involved in the FA-CILITER program marked the launch of the INTEGRATE-AF assessment program.

The INTEGRATE-AF project is the impact measurement phase of the FA-CILITER atrial fibrillation care project. Its goal is to demonstrate that the implementation of a structured interdisciplinary care program can improve compliance to clinical guidelines and is beneficial for patients with atrial fibrillation and for our healthcare system.

The FA-CILITER program

The FA-CILITER program is a structured interdisciplinary atrial fibrillation (AF) care program implemented in Quebec. It includes three major sections: development and implementation of treatment algorithms and protocols, establishment of a knowledge transfer network, and patient education and coordination by a liaison nurse.

To date, close to 2,000 patients have taken part in the FA-CILITER program and have learned more about their clinical state. Both patients and healthcare professionals are enthusiastic about the tools that have been developed.

The FA-CILITER & INTEGRATE-AF projects are made possible through a partnership between 13 healthcare centres in Québec and Boehringer Ingelheim (Canada) Ltd. Dr. Thao Huynh, a cardiologist at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), is the project leader and coordinator. She will draw on the clinical experience she acquired in a similar project on myocardial infarction (AMI-Québec).
