STERLING HEIGHTS, MI - AUGSBURG, Germany, Sept. 7, 2012 /CNW/ - As part
of record second quarter sales, KUKA Systems, the global systems
integrator, booked major orders from the automotive sector to build
manufacturing lines in China and Spain.
The China order, from a premium German automaker, includes nine
manufacturing lines, for new car body and parts assembly, an assembly
and finishing line and for building subassemblies such as front and
rear doors, fenders, engine hoods and tailgates. The Spanish order,
from a large car parts supplier, comprises engineering and construction
for four highly flexible manufacturing lines that will produce body
sections such as front and rear sliding doors and tailgates for various
KUKA Systems Group, headquartered in Augsburg, Germany, registered sales
of EUR 252 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2012, 29.7 percent
more than for the same quarter of 2011. Those sales also partly reflect
several orders for its specialty Magnetarc and friction welding
machines received from automotive customers in the first half of 2012.
The company is a global leader in industrial welding systems. Its
innovations include developing Magnetarc welding, a pressure welding
process that relies on a magnetically driven arc under shielding gas.
During the second quarter, the aerospace division, based in Sterling
Heights, also provided engineering and other advance services for a
production line for Bell Helicopter's new 525 Relentless super medium
class helicopter. In July, Bell announced it had appointed KUKA Systems
to be its supplier partner for building the assembly line.
