TORONTO, Aug. 13, 2015 /CNW/ - The Metallurgy & Materials Society (MetSoc) of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) gears up to host their Annual Conference of Metallurgists (COM 2015) and this year COM 2015 hosts the first America's Conference on Aluminum Alloys (AMCAA).
COM2015: The three-day conference, taking place at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, features a technical program offering more than 400 presentations and posters that cover myriad areas of interest in the minerals, metals and materials fields – from scientific advances through to industrial practice. View the list of presenters here!
AMCAA: America's first regional meeting of the International Conference on Aluminum Alloys (ICAA) – the premier global reference conference for knowledge exchange on aluminum materials – will serve as a building block for Canada to host the ICAA18 meeting in Quebec in 2018.
Women of Impact Symposium: COM2015 is also marked by a special one –day symposium, Women of Impact in the Canadian Materials, Metallurgy, and Mining Fields, on Wednesday, Aug. 26. This symposium aims to recognize and document the experiences and accomplishments of leading women in the minerals industry in Canada.
"Participants will consider how retrieving the stories of women engineers and scientists in Canada can help inform current policy-making, both in companies and government agencies," said Dr. Mary Wells, Chair of COM2015, and Associate Dean Outreach, Faculty of Engineering, University of Waterloo. "This will help advance knowledge in engineering by understanding the different approaches used by women to excel in their careers."
Special day registrations are available for the Women of Impact symposium, and students (undergrad and graduate) can register for it for free. For details, visit //web.cim.org/COM2015/.
