HSBC Canada Sevens set to make history with ticket inventory no longer available
VANCOUVER, Jan. 19, 2017 /CNW/ - The Organizing Committee for the HSBC Canada Sevens rugby tournament announced today that they have sold through their initial ticket inventory of 66,000 for the 2017 event taking place March 11th and 12th at BC Place Stadium. Last year's event broke the record for the largest ever rugby audience in Canada, with 60,418 tickets sold over the two day event. With 66,000 tickets already sold for 2017, this year's crowd is guaranteed to again set a new national record. In only its second year, the 2017 HSBC Canada Sevens tournament is quickly becoming a landmark event in Vancouver, and a growing favorite on the 10-stop global series.
"I would like to thank rugby sevens fans in Vancouver, across Canada, and around the world for their incredible support of our tournament and congratulate them on once again breaking the national rugby audience record," said Bill Cooper, CEO HSBC Canada Sevens. "The market has told us loud and clear that there is a huge appetite for rugby sevens in Vancouver, and we will be responding to make sure we meet that demand while continuously focusing on the quality of spectator atmosphere that was a hallmark of the 2016 event."
With a successful 2016 event at their backs, the Organizing Committee anticipated that sevens fever would hit Vancouver hard this year and that early inventory scarcity was a possibility. In order to be prepared, the Organizing Committee has held talks with BC Place Stadium regarding the potential of opening extra seating. With consideration for operational and broadcast requirements, as well as impact on fan and athlete experience, the organizing committee in collaboration with BC Place Stadium and Ticketmaster will be announcing details early next week.
"The Vancouver stop on the world circuit is becoming a fan and player favorite," said Canadian Sevens Team Captain, John Moonlight. "As an athlete, it is hugely motivating to compete before a hometown crowd, and as my teammates and I watch the audience numbers grow, we are humbled and inspired to make sure that the HSBC Canada Sevens Vancouver event is a memorable one for everyone who comes out to support us."
