CALGARY, Jan. 28, 2012 /CNW/ - The Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of
State (Sport), today announced the Government of Canada's contribution
to the Canadian Freestyle Ski Association in support of the 2012 Canada
Post Freestyle Grand Prix in Calgary. The Canada Post Freestyle Grand
Prix is an annual competition that attracts 170 athletes from 20
"As the single largest contributor to Canada's sport system, our
Government is pleased to provide funding through Sport Canada's Hosting
Program for the 2012 Canada Post Freestyle Grand Prix in Calgary," said
Minister of State Gosal. "We are proud to support our Canadian athletes
and wish them great success as they compete against international
athletes on home soil."
Hosting international sport events such as the 2012 Canada Post
Freestyle Grand Prix gives Canada the opportunity to showcase our
country to athletes and spectators from all over the world and brings
significant economic benefits to Canadians and their communities.
The Government of Canada is the single largest contributor to sport in
Canada and supports participation and excellence from the playground to
the podium. A contribution of $150,000 was provided to the Canadian
Freestyle Ski Association through Sport Canada's Hosting Program. Sport Canada's Sport Support Program is providing $2.496 million to the Canadian Freestyle Ski Association
for the 2011-2012 fiscal year.
