TORONTO, June 20, 2013 /CNW/ - In the heart of Toronto's newest and most
dynamic waterfront community, Great Gulf's Monde Condominiums is releasing a new set of units entitled "Boardwalk Suites," which
embody a waterfront lifestyle, inspired by nature, the lake and city.
Designed by world-renowned architect Moshe Safdie, the suites at Monde
Condominiums boast unprecedented lake and city views and are at the
steps of all that the new waterfront offers, allowing residents to live
in an urban setting that is surrounded by nature.
Moshe's vision for the 40-storey development was to create an
architectural frame through which nature can be viewed and experienced
in the home, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor life. The
new Boardwalk Suites do just this; they are designed to be wide and
shallow to optimize space and natural light. These modern suites offer
views of Lake Ontario and Toronto's iconic skyline and include
pre-finished engineered flooring throughout; Cecconi Simone -designed
kitchens and bathrooms; and much more.
"We're really leading the way for residential development on Toronto's
eastern waterfront," said Alan Vihant, Senior Vice President for High
Rise at Great Gulf. "Within walking distance of downtown, Monde is
uniquely situated in an urban setting that has a direct connection with
nature by being steps away from Lake Ontario and all that the new blue
edge offers. Residents can enjoy resort-inspired amenities at the
condo, indulge in the neighbourhood restaurants and cafés or take a
relaxing stroll on the Lakeshore boardwalk. There's something for
Located north of Queens Quay at 12 Bonnycastle Street, Monde
Condominiums is the first private sector development in East Bayfront -
a vibrant "new blue edge" community defined by extraordinary design,
award-winning parks and public spaces, sustainable development and
leading edge telecommunications infrastructure. Waterfront Toronto's
"new blue edge" is the largest urban renewal project in North America,
transforming the waterfront into beautiful, sustainable mixed-use
communities and dynamic public spaces. Among these spaces is Sherbourne
Common, located right next to Monde Condominiums, providing residents
with green space, a playground, a skating rink, a striking 240 metre
long water channel featuring three dramatic art sculptures, and other
amenities at their doorstep. Monde Condominiums also borders on a brand
new water's edge boardwalk, is steps away from Sugar Beach and just
south of The Distillery District.
"We're delighted to be part of the renaissance taking place at Toronto's
waterfront through our Monde Condominium development," said Jacqueline
Staub, Director Marketing and Communications at Great Gulf. "We see the
waterfront as an incredible place for Torontonians to live, work and
play, which is why we've also committed to sponsoring this weekend's
Redpath Waterfront Festival."
Great Gulf assembled a world-class visionary team and collaborated with
every member, from design to construction, to create a residential
building that will become a vibrant part of the larger East Bayfront
area. They worked with internationally-recognized architect Moshe
Safdie, along with Toronto-based architectural firm Quadrangle
Architects, award-winning interior design firm Cecconi Simone and
Toronto-based landscape architectural firm Janet Rosenberg & Studio, to
create generous, relaxing living spaces.
In fact, Monde Condominiums is the first residential project that
world-renowned architect Moshe Safdie has done in Canada since his
landmark Habitat '67 in Montreal. His works are known for their
dramatic curves, geometric patterns, use of windows, and placement of
open and green spaces, and this signature style is apparent in Monde
"By being the first development in the East Bayfront community, we
wanted to reimagine waterfront living and set the standard for design
excellence and sustainability," said Safdie. "Monde is inspired by the
fusion of the shimmering waters of Lake Ontario and the 21st- century urban parkscape at Sherbourne Common - the best of what nature
offers on the new blue edge."
What's more, Monde Condominiums is one of very few residential buildings
in Canada pursuing LEED Gold certification, paying homage to its
On the 10th floor, Monde Condominiums has devoted more than 16,000 square feet to
resort-style amenities, including an infinity pool surrounded by white
cabanas; a lush outdoor garden with mature trees; a fire pit; an indoor
fitness and spa; and much more. Throughout the building, the new
broadband infrastructure from Beanfield is up to 100 times faster than
internet service anywhere else in the city.
There are approximately 140 Boardwalk Suites in Monde Condominiums,
which will be released on June 22nd. They include one bedroom, one bedroom plus den, two bedrooms and two
bedrooms plus den, ranging from 510 to 986 square feet. Prices start at
$279,900 (for a one bedroom).
"With its premier location and stunning design, Monde Condominiums will
become a waterfront landmark in East Bayfront," said John Campbell,
President and CEO of Waterfront Toronto. "Great Gulf is supporting our
overall revitalization mandate by contributing this outstanding new
development which is an integral part of the vibrant new community
emerging in East Bayfront."
