MONTRÉAL, June 18, 2014 /CNW/ - Golder Associés Ltée has been recognized
by the Association des ingénieurs-conseils du Québec (association of
consulting engineers of Québec) during their Grands Prix du
génie-conseil québécois (consulting engineering award gala) and
declared the winner in the Environment category, an honour that was
conferred jointly with a Special Mention. This award recognized Golder
Associés' work for the characterization and rehabilitation of
Lac-Mégantic. The Léonards, awards that "symbolize the highest quality
in engineering", are presented annually by the Association des
ingénieurs-conseils du Québec. This year, the event took place in
Montréal on June 10.
Golder's award-winning submission described the environmental work
carried out by Golder Associés following the derailment in
Lac-Mégantic. More than 200 professionals were mobilized by Golder to
conduct rehabilitation work in the downtown core and to assist in the
water clean-up between July and December 2013. This highly
collaborative effort, which was crucial in securing the area, was
conducted on behalf of the Ministère du Développement durable, de
l'Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques
Golder Associés Ltée is proud to be the recipient of not only the
Environment award, but also the Special Mention. It was recognized by
the jury for the exceptional management and mobilization of its human
resources as well as the effectiveness of its interventions. Stéphane
Bureau, the host of the award gala, summed up Golder's involvement as
follows: "When faced with this atypical project, the company was able
to get involved without imposing itself, and work in close
collaboration with all stakeholders. Golder never forgot the human
dimension of this catastrophe and took important decisions promptly."
During the award ceremony, Golder was also lauded for its ability to
inject its values of teamwork, excellence and overall concern for
well-being into the project.
The work, which aimed to secure the area affected by the spill prior to
the winter season, would not have been successful without the valuable
contribution of all Golder employees and its various stakeholders. "I
want to sincerely thank the city of Lac-Mégantic, Urgence-Environnement
(MDDELCC), the Direction régionale de la Montérégie (MDDELCC), the
Ministère de la Sécurité publique, the Ministère des Affaires
municipales et de l'Occupation du territoire, Pomerleau, and all the
contractors and suppliers who contributed directly or indirectly to
this project," said Denis Millette, Principal and Project Director, who
was visibly moved by this recognition.
