for excellence in battery recycling
Future Shop is recognized as a "Leader in Sustainability" for
outstanding practices in battery recycling.
Call2Recycle created the award to recognize an elite group of
organizations setting an example for environmental sustainability by
helping to steer hazardous waste away from landfills.
In 2011, 135 Future Shop stores participated in the Call2Recycle
program, sending 1,091 boxes full of batteries weighing 34,500 lbs. for
BURNABY, BC, June 18, 2012 /CNW/ - Future Shop, Canada's largest
retailer and etailer of consumer electronics has been recognized by
Call2Recycle as part of an elite group of Canadian organizations who
have set the example for environmental sustainability by helping steer
hazardous waste, specifically batteries, away from landfills. In 2011,
135 of 149 Future Shop stores collected 34,500 lbs. of batteries for
recycling through the Call2Recycle program.

programs in place to help our customers recycle their electronics and

Future Shop continues to strive towards expanding our recycling
programs to offer more options for our customers."
In addition to battery recycling, Future Shop stores across the country
offer customers the opportunity to bring in various electronic devices
for free recycling depending on the provincial recycling programs that
are in place.

Shop were pivotal in helping Call2Recycle reach more than 850,000
kilograms (1.87M pounds) of collections in Canada in 2011. This
represents a 17 per cent increase in rechargeable batteries over 2010,
and an astounding 157 per cent increase in primary battery collections.
