Endorsed by Éric Lucas and Jennifer Heil, Sainte-Justine UHC Foundation Winter Triathlon raises $601,000

IBI-DAA-CHBA-MMB team takes home the Pierre Boivin trophy

MONTREAL, Feb. 1, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Some 80 teams consisting of well-known business people, athletes and entertainers took part today in a friendly competition of skating, running and cross-country skiing, as part of the seventh annual Sainte-Justine UHC Foundation Winter Triathlon.

Endorsed by Pierre Boivin, Éric Lucas and Jennifer Heil, and hosted by Julie du Page and Mathieu Roy, the event raised $601,000.

The proceeds will be used to fund new neuroscience laboratories at the Sainte-Justine UHC research centre. These new state-of-the-art facilities will enable Sainte-Justine's experienced researchers to continue their efforts to provide better treatments for children with brain conditions such as autism, schizophrenia and intellectual disabilities as well as speech, mood and attention disorders.

Since its first edition in 2007, the Sainte-Justine Winter Triathlon has raised more than $1,839,302 . The Young Leaders Circle, which organizes the event on a volunteer basis, has donated more than $4,331,684 to the Foundation.

"We raised a record amount this year. It's really impressive to see how the business community rallies year after year to show their support for Sainte-Justine's young patients," said France-Élaine Duranceau, president of the Young Leaders Circle. "The Triathlon is always a unique opportunity for young professionals, entrepreneurs and partners to pool their energies and strive to excel—both athletically and philanthropically!"

The Winter Triathlon, presented by Club Med, consists of four categories (competitive, men's, women's and mixed). The winner in the competitive category is the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie. Norton Rose Canada took the honours in the men's category. The women's category was won by team LOLË. And the Altius team took first prize in the mixed category.

The Pierre Boivin Challenge
Since it was established in 2009, the Pierre Boivin Challenge has made a significant contribution to the growth of the Winter Triathlon, raising more than $385,000. The formula is simple: each team registered for the Triathlon is encouraged to canvas their colleagues, friends and family members for donations in order to compete for the Pierre Boivin trophy. This year, the Pierre Boivin Challenge alone raised $385,652. The IBI-DAA-CHBA-MMB team was awarded the Pierre Boivin trophy for raising $47,290.

The eighth Sainte-Justine UHC Foundation Winter Triathlon, organized by the Young Leaders Circle, will take place on Friday, February 7, 2014. For more information, visit www.triathlon-sainte-justine.org.
