Eco Driving Video Series Launch in Honour of Earth Day
TORONTO, April 15, 2013 /CNW/ - With Earth Day Canada coming up on Monday, April 22nd, Young Drivers of Canada is launching their Eco Driving video series and tips to challenge Canadians to go green and save. What if you could save 250 Olympic sized swimming pools worth of wasted fuel a year? What great fuel saving trick will help your fuel economy on your drive to work?
Peter Christianson, President of Young Drivers of Canada says, "Small actions can make a long term difference. If each driver added just one of our tips to their driving style, the cumulative savings would be huge. In honour of Earth Day Canada, we have launched this Eco series to share with Canadian drivers easy tips that will help save fuel and emissions and help save them money."
Here are a few tips from Young Drivers to get you started en route to going green:
-
Avoid a Lead Foot: Avoid heavy acceleration and heavy braking as this
style of driving uses up to 39% more fuel. Aim for smooth and steady.
This will help to reduce wear and tear on the vehicle and help avoid an
unnecessary stop.
-
Turn It Off: Idling your engine more than 10 seconds wastes fuel. Turn
off the engine, unless you are at risk of crash.
- Speed and Fuel: Drivers will get the best fuel economy between 50 km/h and 80 km/h. Plan your route on roads within this range wherever possible.
There are 7 eco driving videos in the series. The videos cover topics from the Top 5 EcoDriving tips, tire pressure tricks, following distance and optimal space on the road and more.
