QUEBEC, Nov. 2, 2026 /CNW/ -- November is Diabetes Awareness Month, and November 14 will mark World Diabetes Day, with the theme "Early action on diabetes". Diabetes Québec is taking this opportunity to raise awareness of diabetes, which affects more than 1.2 million people living in Quebec.
Alarming statistics
- More than 100 people are diagnosed with diabetes every day.
- The prevalence of diabetes has almost doubled in less than 20 years.
- More than 400,000 adults are living with prediabetes.
- More than 125,000 adults are estimated to be living with undiagnosed diabetes.
- More than 50% of people with type 2 diabetes already have complications at the time of diagnosis.
Although Quebec has the lowest prevalence of diabetes in Canada, it is among the provinces with the highest mortality rates among people living with the disease. This underscores the importance of taking action in Quebec.
Support that makes a difference
Poorly controlled diabetes can lead to serious complications and significant costs for the health care system. Fortunately, appropriate care and support can reduce these risks and help people age well with diabetes.
"A diabetes diagnosis often brings many questions and concerns. At Diabetes Québec, we're here to help people understand their diagnosis and feel supported. We want to help them live full lives, manage their diabetes and reduce their risk of complications" says Susana Lazaro, President and CEO of Diabetes Québec.
Four free webinars to better understand diabetes
As part of Diabetes Awareness Month, Diabetes Québec is offering four free webinars in French, held every Tuesday in November. Each session will be led by health care professionals who specialize in diabetes.
Topics include early screening for type 1 diabetes, the links between obesity and type 2 diabetes, and type 2 diabetes remission. Participants will also learn ways to live well with diabetes and prevent complications.
