DALLAS, June 20, 2013 /CNW/ - Dallas Mayor Michael S. Rawlings and The 50th Committee of the President John F. Kennedy Commemorative Foundation announced today the free online ticket request process for "The 50th: Honoring the Memory of President John F. Kennedy," a public event taking place at 11:45 a.m. November 22, 2013 at Dealey Plaza.

A serious, understated and respectful commemoration in tribute to our nation's 35th president, "The 50th" will honor Kennedy's life and legacy of leadership. Paid for by private donations, the public event is led by Mayor Rawlings and the Foundation, in cooperation with the city of Dallas.

Ticket requests for "The 50th" can be placed from 11 a.m. June 20 through July 31 at www.50thhonoringjohnfkennedy.com. Requests will be entered into a highly secure database and tickets will be randomly allocated by computer program. Those receiving tickets will be notified on or about Oct 1, 2013. The Dallas Police Department will screen all ticketholders.

Due to space limitations, security and safety, 5,000 tickets will be issued, with more than half distributed to residents of the DFW area. The rest will be issued to people outside the DFW area, as well as to the media, government officials, civic leaders and major donors. Anyone over 18 can request 1 or 2 tickets and anyone 12 or over can attend. Nearby video screens in downtown will broadcast the event live for those unable to get tickets.

"It is very important to The 50th Committee and the City of Dallas that this event is free and open to the public, and this ticketing process allows us to do that," said Mayor Rawlings.

The Foundation's 50th Committee planning the event is made up of a broad cross-section of 25 Dallas civic leaders, and is chaired by Ruth Sharp Altshuler. "The 50th" will start with the tolling of church bells and a moment of silence. Pulitzer Prize-winning Presidential historian David McCullough will give special readings from Kennedy's speeches, the U.S. Naval Academy Men's Glee Club will perform, and area religious leaders will offer prayers. A ceremonial flyover will conclude the hour-long memorial.

The media are invited to cover the event from a press area in Dealey Plaza. Space limits may apply and all media requests will be screened by the Dallas Police Department.

Media credential requests must be submitted at www.50thhonoringjohnfkennedy.com by 11:59 a.m. CST on October 31. All members of the media with current credentials are eligible to cover the event – including freelance journalists, online media and documentarians – and must provide information on their assignments and media outlets. Commercial photographers and commercial documentarians will not be issued credentials. Email all media questions to jfkmedia@lpapr.com.
