New stamp issues capture the beauty of snowflakes and the enduring symbolism of angels
OTTAWA, ON, Nov. 2, 2026 /CNW/ -- Today Canada Post released two new stamp issues to celebrate the festive season. The 2026 Holiday stamps feature magnified views of intricate snowflakes, a magical symbol of the holidays, and the Christmas stamp showcases an angel from a historic Nova Scotia church mural, reflecting the hope and joy at the heart of Christmas.
Canada Post has issued stamps for the Christmas and holiday season since 1964. Since 2005, Canadians have been able to choose between stamps featuring sacred Christmas imagery and stamps inspired by secular holiday themes.
Capturing winter through nature's works of art
The Holiday stamp illustrations are based on extreme close-up photography of actual snowflakes, revealing the complexity and beauty within every snow crystal. The stamp design features multi-faceted snowflakes in icy-blue hues set against a blanket of white, highlighting the intricate forms they can take, from delicate stars to elaborate hexagons.
These little bits of frosty magic are cancelled in Bonne Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador, an area known for heavy snowfall. The cancel mark is a line drawing of a snowflake.
Celebrating angels and the story of Christmas
The Christmas stamp features an angel from the mural surrounding the altar of Paroisse Saint‑Pierre (St. Peter's Church) in Chéticamp, Nova Scotia. Drawn from the richly detailed artwork of Mario Mauro, the stamp depicts an angel poised in the heavens, hands gathered in prayer and wings gracefully extended.
Cancelled in Chéticamp, Nova Scotia, the cancel mark features a line illustration of the Star of Bethlehem, the celestial sign traditionally associated with the birth of Jesus.
