Business Central provides a strong general ledger but no dedicated workspace for running the close. Many finance teams fill the gap with spreadsheet checklists, email threads and shared drives, so the close depends on whoever remembers the steps.

The risk grows with the business. As organizations add entities and bank accounts, and as lenders, investors and boards ask for more documentation, a spreadsheet close offers no enforced segregation of duties, no complete audit trail and no reliable view of reconciling items aged past 90 days. A standalone enterprise close platform can solve this, but it means another system to buy, host and integrate.

Why Catapult built the module

What is the Financial Close and Audit Module?

The Financial Close and Audit Module is a purpose-built close management extension for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. It gives finance teams one workspace for the whole close:

• Administrators build a reusable close task template once, and each month it generates a dated, assigned checklist.
• Preparers complete tasks and attach evidence. Reviewers approve the work or return it with a reason.
• Account reconciliations, journal reviews and variance analyses follow the same review cycle.
• Managers lock the period when the work is done, and every action is recorded in Close History.

"In many finance teams, the close lives in a spreadsheet and in one person's head. That works until it doesn't. Here, every task has an owner, a due date, required evidence and a second set of eyes, and each step is recorded in Business Central as it happens. What changes for finance teams

• The close no longer depends on one person. The checklist is built once and regenerated every period.
• Problems surface earlier. Open reconciling items are grouped by age, so stale items are flagged before they become audit findings.
• Controls are built into the workflow. By default, the person who prepared an item cannot approve it.
• Audit readiness is a by-product of the close. Every approval, return, lock and reopen is permanently recorded, and a read-only Auditor role gives external auditors full visibility without the ability to change anything.

• It runs entirely inside Business Central, so finance data stays in one place.
• Required evidence must be an attached file rather than a checkbox.
• A period cannot be locked while work remains open, and reopening it requires a documented reason.
