Canada Mining Innovation Council applauds bilateral initiative with China

OTTAWA, Feb. 8, 2012 /CNW/ - President Engin Özberk of the Canada Mining Innovation Council (CMIC) said on Wednesday that the Prime Minister's announcement of collaboration with China on issues including natural resources and science and technology, are good for innovation in Canada.

"We are happy to collaborate internationally on advancing R & D in the mining sector, and particularly for environment and safety", said Özberk.  "Better collaboration between Canada and China can only be a good thing for our industries, and for our countries. In particular, the new MOU on Sustainable Development of Natural Resources may help focus mutual interest on innovation in this area."

CMIC is an industry-led partnership of companies, governments and academia who are engaged with increasing the amount and focus of research and innovation in the Canadian exploration and mining industries.  CMIC is working on major research initiatives in mineral exploration, mining extraction, mineral processing, energy efficiency, tailings management and environmental stewardship.  Its plan is to engage researchers across the country to help put in place the research needed for a sustainable Canadian mining sector.
