Canada Day Consequences!

TORONTO, June 27, 2014 /CNW/ - arrive alive DRIVE SOBERR wants to remind the minority of drivers who do take the risk of getting behind the wheel after drinking, of the consequences.

"We've been conducting surveys this year and are finding that most people are not aware of the extent of the consequences for being charged with and/or convicted of impaired driving", said arrive alive DRIVE SOBER Executive Director Anne Leonard.

Consequences apply to drivers convicted of impaired driving (alcohol or other drugs) and include:

  • When charged: immediate 90 day driver licence suspension and immediate 7 day vehicle impoundment
  • When convicted: criminal record, licence suspension, back on track program (assessment and program), ignition interlock condition, increase to insurance ($18,000 over three years), fine (minimum $1,000), and fees and other costs.

"We hope that being aware of the fulsome of the consequences will motivate drivers to plan ahead. Thanks to all who do". Ms. Leonard added.

Arrive alive DRIVE SOEBR reminds all road users that they can report an impaired driver as a crime in progress by dialing 9-1-1.
