PEI's Dr. Regis Duffy receives lifetime achievement award

HALIFAX, Sept. 8 /CNW Telbec/ - Today, Dr. Regis Duffy was named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year(R) 2010 Atlantic Lifetime Achievement Award recipient in recognition of his commitment to the PEI business community and his substantial entrepreneurial achievements. Dr. Duffy is Entrepreneur Of The Year's ninth award recipient from Atlantic Canada.

Dr. Duffy's entrepreneurial spirit and inherent ability to thrive in business have contributed to his success over the years," said Joyce Hoeven, Director of Entrepreneur Of The Year for the Atlantic region. "Over and above, his sharp business savvy and optimism transpire in his community involvement and charity work, making him an inspiration to leaders in the Atlantic region."

Dr. Duffy's entrepreneurial journey began in 1970. For more than 40 years, he has applied his academic background in science into developing a prosperous bioscience manufacturing business that reaches hospitals, clinics and laboratories across North America. He established Diagnostic Chemicals Limited, and transformed the company into a leading manufacturer of active pharmaceutical ingredients, fine chemicals, enzymes and chemical reagents. After selling its diagnostic division in 2007, Diagnostic now operates its pharmaceutical division under the name BioVectra Inc. It is not surprising that Dr. Duffy's ambition has not only contributed to his entrepreneurial accomplishments, but has been monumental in placing PEI on the map of bioscience innovation.

The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Lifetime Achievement Award honours individuals who have made an enduring impression on the Canadian business community and who continue to nurture and inspire the next generation of Canadian entrepreneurial talents.

Ernst & Young will present this prestigious award to Dr. Duffy during the Atlantic Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards banquet in Halifax on October 19, 2010.
