Distillery's newest expression to be celebrated on Ardbeg Day - May 31, 2014 -
TORONTO, May 29, 2014 /CNW/ - Ardbeg, four-time winner of the World's Best Scotch Whisky award, will celebrate the upcoming release of its 2014 Limited Edition Auriverdes on Ardbeg Day - Saturday, May 31 - the distillery's annual global tribute to all things Ardbeg.
Ardbeg Auriverdes - to be released in British Columbia and Alberta in late spring 2014, and all other provinces in fall 2014 - has been matured in American oak casks with specially toasted cask lids that were tailor-made for this unique product.
"When creating Auriverdes I had a distinct flavour profile in mind that I wanted to achieve, so I specifically created the heart of the recipe to bring that to life," says Dr. Bill Lumsden, director of distillation and whisky creation at Ardbeg Distillery in Scotland. "Auriverdes is a unique expression of Ardbeg which has exceeded all my expectations. It has the trademark Ardbeg undertones with a distinct new taste experience."
The new toasting technique has given the whisky a unique flavour profile with the lids producing a mocha coffee flavour at one end, flowing into creamy vanilla at the other – truly a dram of two halves.
Distilled with equal measures of skill and passion, the name Ardbeg Auriverdes derives from the colour of the golden whisky (auri) in Ardbeg's iconic green bottle (verde). Auriverdes is also the nickname of the national football team of Brazil, hosts of this summer's World Cup and inspiration behind Ardbeg's Peat Football tournament, which will be occurring around the world on Ardbeg Day.
"We love to experiment and try new things at Ardbeg and we have no doubt that Auriverdes will be a hit with our Ardbeg fans on Ardbeg Day," adds Lumsden.
Ardbeg Day will be celebrated at the distillery in Scotland on Saturday, May 31, and in other countries around the world, including Canada. Special Ardbeg Day events are scheduled in key cities across Canada, offering registered fans a chance to discover the new Ardbeg Auriverdes and celebrate the upcoming World Cup with matches, foosball and a dribble of whisky.
