Appointment to the Canada Council for the Arts

GATINEAU, QC, Dec. 19, 2013 /CNW/ - The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced the appointment of Ms. Nathalie Bondil as Vice-Chairperson of the Canada Council for the Arts for a term of four years, effective March 31, 2014.

"I am very pleased to announce that Ms. Bondil has accepted to serve as Vice-Chairperson of the Canada Council for the Arts," said Minister Glover. "Her leadership and wealth of experience in the arts world have been rightfully applauded on numerous occasions, both in Canada and abroad, and will be solid assets to the Council."

Ms. Bondil has been Director of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts since 2007, and the Museum's Chief Curator since 2000. She has received many awards and honours, including being named a Knight of the Ordre national du Québec and receiving an honorary Doctor of Letters from McGill University. Ms. Bondil is a graduate of the French state heritage curatorship program, following studies at the École nationale du patrimoine, and of the museology program at the École du Louvre in Paris.

The Canada Council for the Arts is a federal Crown corporation created by an Act of Parliament in 1957. The role of the Council is to foster and promote the study and enjoyment of the arts and the production of artistic works.
