Amanda Molloy Named 2013 CPRS/CNW Group Student Award of Excellence Winner

TORONTO, June 24, 2013 /CNW/ - The Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) and CNW Group proudly name Amanda Molloy as the 2013 CPRS/CNW Group Student Award of Excellence winner. Molloy was recognized during the 2013 CPRS National Awards Gala on June 11 in Gatineau, QC. Molloy was not in attendance but did address the crowd of 200 with her acceptance speech via video.

"It's such an honour to receive this award," said Molloy. "I'm so happy to be receiving it. I just wanted to send a big thank you to the Canadian Public Relations Society, CNW Group and my mentors and professors at Memorial University and the University of Victoria."

A driven individual, Molloy has demonstrated a strong commitment to her career by completing her last semester at Memorial University while also completing a distance learning public relations course through the University of Victoria, all while working a part-time job to help fund her studies.

"Ms. Molloy has unfailingly shown that she not only has a clear understanding of the application of the principles of public relations theory in class, but in its application outside of the classroom as well," wrote Erwin Warkentin, PhD, associate professor, communications studies, Memorial University and Molloy's nominator for the award. "She has done this through the volunteer work with the Communications Society at Memorial and as student chair of CPRS Newfoundland and Labrador."

Established jointly by CPRS and CNW Group, the award recognizes student excellence in the public relations (PR) field. Program co-ordinators or instructors from public relations programs across Canada nominate candidates by submitting a 300-500 word summary about the nominee. Eligible students had to be currently enrolled in their final year (or equivalent) of a recognized, full-time PR program, instructed in a Canadian post-secondary institution. Students must have been studying at an undergraduate, diploma or certificate level. Winners receive a certificate and $1,000 cash award from CNW Group. CPRS will provide Molloy with a complimentary Affiliate Membership. The Affiliate Membership is a new category designed specifically for new practitioners entering the profession following the completion of post-secondary public relations studies.
