AEM Welcomes Government of Canada's Infrastructure Priorities
OTTAWA, March 22, 2016 /CNW/ - Equipment manufacturers in Canada and across North America commend the Government of Canada's historic infrastructure proposal as part of its 2016 Budget. These investments will support job creation and economic growth in Canada by addressing a backlog of badly-needed infrastructure projects that have been neglected due to lack of funding and deferred maintenance.
AEM members in Canada and across North America also share the values that infrastructure is about delivering on both the short-term and long-term benefits to Canadians, through reliable, consistent, and strategically-focused investments.
The government's collaborative plan for investment also seeks several common-sense reforms that would modernize Canada's approach to infrastructure. Phase 1 of the infrastructure plan identifies priority areas, including public transit, water and wastewater systems. Equipment manufacturers also welcome reforms that would remit unspent infrastructure dollars to the Gas Tax Fund to ensure that those funds are available for use in other infrastructure projects.
AEM looks forward to communicating to Members of Parliament, Provincial Legislatures, and City Councils, about the importance of collaborative infrastructure investments in supporting manufacturing jobs and economic growth throughout Canada.
