The Honourable Joe Oliver joins the Montreal Economic Institute

MONTREAL, March 9, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - The Montreal Economic Institute (MEI) is proud to announce the nomination of the Honourable Joe Oliver as "Distinguished Senior Fellow." The former Finance Minister of Canada will take part in certain research projects, in particular on files related to public finances and natural resources.

"It is a great honour for us to be able to engage in such a prestigious collaboration," said Michel Kelly-Gagnon, President and CEO of the MEI. "Mr. Oliver will among other things act as a media spokesperson, being perfectly bilingual, and will co-sign certain publications."

Joe Oliver is originally from Montreal. Elected in 2011 as Conservative Member of Parliament for the riding of Eglinton-Lawrence, in Ontario, he successively served as Canada's Minister of Natural Resources and its Minister of Finance.

"I am very happy to be associated with the MEI. It is an organization that enjoys a very high level of credibility in Quebec and across Canada. Moreover, it is the only Canadian think tank proposing solutions based on market mechanisms that offers all of its publications in both official languages, which I think is very important."

A long-time investment banker, Joe Oliver served as Executive Director of the Ontario Securities Commission and President and CEO of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada.

"Mr. Oliver has had a brilliant career. With his wealth of knowledge and his extensive experience, he will make an undeniable contribution to our team," said Michel Kelly-Gagnon.

Joe Oliver holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Civil Law from McGill University. A member of the Quebec Bar, he also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Harvard Business School.
