GATINEAU, QC, April 25, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - The Canadian Music Competition – Canimex (CMC) announces its 2017 National Final, taking place from June 17 to 30 at the Conservatoire de musique in Gatineau. The three Grand Prize winners of the 59th edition and the winner of the Stepping Stone (professional component) will perform in the Gala Concert on July 12 at 7:30 pm, in Salle Odyssée at the Maison de la Culture de Gatineau, with the Orchestre de la Francophonie, conducted by Jean-Philippe Tremblay. Some 200 musicians of ages 7 to 30, from six Canadian provinces, will take part in the competition. Also, the National Audition comes to Ottawa from May 15 to 17, in Freiman Hall at the University of Ottawa. The public is invited to come encourage the young virtuosos; admission is free of charge.
The CMC also announces that Monique Leroux, President of the International Co-operative Alliance (former president of the Desjardins Group), and a CMC laureate, will be the competition's artistic ambassador. "The Canadian Music Competition brings up some wonderful memories, as I had the opportunity to take part as a pianist several years ago. The event is as demanding as it is formative, allowing young artists to truly excel. Whether we earn a living making music or as a music-lover, the CMC remains a unique source of inspiration for one and all!" states Ms. Leroux.
Tickets for the Gala Concert are on sale starting today at the Maison de la culture: www.maisondelaculture.ca.
As the only Canada-wide classical music competition for young performers, the CMC brings together 400 to 600 candidates every year. Several of Canada's great artists—including Louis Lortie, James Ehnes, Angela Hewitt, Anne-Marie Dubois, and Kerson Leong—have taken part since the competition was first founded.
The CMC sincerely thanks the Canimex Group, main sponsor of the 2017 edition and a partner for over 40 years. The CMC also thanks Québecor, Soprema, UL Mutual, Jeunesses Musicales Canada Foundation, Power Corporation of Canada, Outaouais Tourism, and the City of Gatineau. The CMC acknowledges the contribution of the Conservatoire de musique in Gatineau, Orchestre de la Francophonie, and Steinway & Sons, official piano of the CMC.
