TD Ramps-Up On-the-Ground Assistance for Fort McMurray Fire Evacuees

TD Mobile Response Fleet providing financial assistance, insurance support and much more

CALGARY, May 8, 2016 /CNW/ - TD's Mobile Response Fleet continues to grow in northern Alberta, providing emergency assistance to bank and insurance customers who have been evacuated by the devastating fires. Starting Monday, the TD Mobile Branch, outfitted with an ATM, will provide evacuees with easier access to cash at the Bold Centre Reception Centre in Lac La Biche, and the TD Helps Advice Centre has arrived on site at the Northlands Reception Centre in Edmonton, assisting banking customers with urgent financial needs through the Fort McMurray TD Helps Program.

Since May 4th, a TD Insurance Mobile Response Unit has been in the area providing urgent assistance to hundreds of insurance customers daily, and another unit is on its way on Monday. "More than 30 TD Insurance employees are on site in Edmonton, Lac La Biche and Calgary responding first-hand to more than 2,500 customers' immediate needs and concerns, and providing previously announced assistance. We have taken more than 4,000 calls from impacted customers, and already paid out many millions of dollars in temporary living expenses. Our teams are there to keep customers feeling safe, informed, and a bit more comfortable knowing that they have our advice and support during this very difficult time," said John Thompson, SVP and Chief Claims Officer, TD Insurance.

TD's employees have stepped up to play a part.  Within the region, additional resources have been allocated to local branches to provide assistance, and the TD Comfort Crew has five vans running throughout the weekend distributing water, food, clothing, toiletries and other necessities to evacuees at 10 TD branches in Edmonton and northern Alberta and four additional evacuee reception areas.

"We are heartbroken at the devastation and we are doing everything we can to be there for our impacted employees and customers when and where they need it," said Brian Gervais, SVP Community Banking, Prairie Region.  "TD will continue to rally behind this community. Whether it's providing immediate relief with the Fort McMurray TD Helps program, onsite assistance with the TD Mobile Response Fleet, or matching donations made through TD to the Canadian Red Cross, these are just our first steps.  We want Fort McMurray to know that we're in this together and we're in it for the long haul."
