GATINEAU, QC, June 19, 2017 /CNW/ - Today, the Honorable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, issued the following statement regarding Bill C-4:
"Our government was elected on a commitment to restore a fair and balanced approach to labour relations, and I am proud that today Bill C-4, An Act to amend the Canada Labour Code, the Parliamentary Employment and Staff Relations Act, the Public Service Labour Relations Act and the Income Tax Act, has received Royal Assent.
Introducing Bill C-4 was one of our first acts as a new government. The bill repeals previous legislation that had undermined and weakened labour rights in our country, in favour of restoring fairness, balance, and stability in Canada's federal labour relations system.
Bill C-4 returns unions to the card-check certification system that supported sound labour relations in our country for decades. It also repeals the Income Tax Act provisions previously enacted that created unnecessarily onerous public financial reporting requirements for unions.
Our government knows that a healthy labour movement is essential to building an economy that works for the middle class."
