Statement by the Hon. Michael Wilson, P.C., C.C., Board Chair, Mental Health Commission of Canada Announcing New Board Members

OTTAWA, Oct. 7, 2016 /CNW/ - Following the Annual General Meeting of the Mental Health Commission of Canada held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, I am pleased to announce the following appointments to the Board of Directors:

Ms. Tera Beaulieu, Toronto, ON – a citizen of the Métis Nation of Ontario, is an experienced clinician with a concentration on Aboriginal services, women's and psychological trauma programs. Ms. Beaulieu is a leader in the provision of community-based clinical services focused on Indigenous communities and youth.

Mr. Charles Bruce, St. John's, NL – a former Chair of the Canadian Mental Health Association – Nova Scotia and currently a member of the MHCC Advisory Council.  Mr. Bruce is experienced in the fields of corporate finance, strategy and governance, and is currently serving as CEO of the Public Service Pension Plan Corporation in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Mr. Mike Dalton, Calgary, AB – an experienced financial executive, corporate director and retired officer in the Canadian Armed Forces. Currently, Mr. Dalton is Chief Financial Officer of Guardian Exploration Inc. and a board member for both Calgary Cooperative Association Ltd. and the Calgary Military Family Resource Centre.

Ms. Cheryl Fraser, New Glasgow, NS – a seasoned bilingual executive and board director with 35 years of experience in both the private and public sectors. Ms. Fraser is active in a number of community organizations, including the John Howard Society of Nova Scotia and the YMCA of Pictou County, NS.

Mr. Richard Jock, Vancouver, BC - currently Chief Operating Officer of the First Nations Health Authority and an experienced leader in Indigenous health and wellness policy. Mr. Jock is a member of the Akwesasne First Nation.

In keeping with the MHCC's commitment to increasing diversity in positions of influence, our new Directors reflect our nation's rich cultural mosaic.  Our Board is further enhanced by members with solid financial credentials, experience with issues facing Indigenous peoples in Canada, and diverse expertise related to vulnerable populations.

I am very pleased that Ms. Kim Calsaferri, Ms. Uppala Chandrasekera, Dr. Manon Charbonneau, Mr. Paul Glover, Ms. Arlene Hache, Mr. Mark Henick and Mr. Peter Ralph will continue to serve on the Board of Directors.

On behalf of the MHCC, and the mental health community in Canada, I would like to thank Mr. Dennis Anderson, Dr. François Borgeat, Ms. Debbie DeLancey, Mr. Patrick Dion, Ms. Karen Herd, Ms. Kimberly Kratzig, Ms. Shan Landry, Mr. Michael Mayne and Mr. James A. Morrisey for their indelible contributions to the Commission. Their dedication to mental health and wellness during their tenure on the Board was unwavering. We will remain grateful for their distinguished service."
