OTTAWA, Aug. 19, 2016 /CNW/ - The Government of Canada is committed to a fair and balanced collective bargaining process.
Earlier today, I met with the President of Canada Post and the President of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers on behalf of the Honourable MaryAnn Mihychuk. Minister Mihychuk was unable to meet with them herself due to personal reasons.
I met with both leaders individually and together. My message to them was the same: Canadians hope they will be able to negotiate a new collective agreement without a work stoppage. I encouraged them to remain at the negotiating table. I reminded them that federal mediators are available to assist them, and continue to support their ongoing negotiations.
Minister Mihychuk continues to monitor the situation closely.
