Vancouver Office to initially focus on emerging technology companies and investors with build out in other practice areas to reflect needs of BC market.
VANCOUVER, Aug. 6, 2015 /CNW/ - In a move to extend our emerging companies, investment funds and technology practices, and to provide expanded support for our many clients with British Columbia business interests, we are pleased to announce the opening of a new Osler office in Vancouver effective August 12, 2015.
"We are excited to open as a firm in Vancouver. Many of our partners and practices have strong connections to clients and businesses in BC and this will deepen those ties. We have long viewed Vancouver as an important gateway to enhancing our service offering to our domestic and international clients and we're very pleased to become part of the Vancouver community," said Shawn Denstedt, Osler Co-Chair.
"Our clients have been encouraging us to establish a presence in this increasingly important market, with its links to industries of strategic importance to us and to the US and Asia, and we're delighted to do so. We're launching our office with our newest partner, and Vancouver's technology market leader, Mark Longo, as Co-Chair of our Emerging Companies Practice. Mark will be joining Tom Isaac, the leader of our Aboriginal Practice, and Karen Sharlow, former Justice of the Federal Court of Appeal, who is a member of our market-leading National Tax Litigation team. We anticipate the office will grow along with the needs of our clients," said Dale Ponder, Osler Managing Partner.
Chad Bayne, Co-Chair of the firm's Emerging Companies Practice, observed that: "Mark's desire to build out his practice at Osler is a game-changer for us. His prominent profile in the Vancouver and BC tech ecosystems will help us solidify our market-leading practice across Canada. We're really pleased to have someone of Mark's calibre as a founding member of our new Vancouver office and I'm personally very pleased to lead our Emerging Companies Practice with him."
"Osler understands the unique service needs of early stage companies, playing an important technical role in the building their platform for growth," says General Counsel of Hootsuite, Paula Pepin.
Ryan Holmes, CEO of Hootsuite, reflects: "Hootsuite has been working with Osler since the closing of our first round of financing in 2009. Through a number of major events in our company, they have leaned in and been there to help support us through the process as a true partner. I am excited to see them enter the Vancouver market to help other tech companies build amazing businesses."
